Spacebase Startopia, the sci-fi colony management game, will be the first early access title on the Xbox Series X/S.
Publisher Kalypso Media announced that the Realmforge Studios game will be released on Xbox Series X/S (and Xbox One) as part of the Xbox Game Preview. This program releases incomplete, early access titles onto their consoles under certain criteria.
On the surface, this doesn’t sound like anything special. But this will be the first game released in early access on the next gen consoles. Still not much, but it’s a fun accomplishment worth celebrating. This is the kind of stuff added to Wiki pages, ya know?
So what IS Spacebase Startopia?
At its core, it’s a colony management game. The scene starts out with a space station, left abandoned for 17 years. The player is the only “rational life form” left, and as such, has been granted the title of Commander. It’s now up to the player to rebuild and revitalize the station. They also need to defend against a hostile alien species that likely caused the downfall of the station before you.
The game features plenty of RTS elements, including strategic combat, resource management, and even multiplayer PvP.
Spacebase Startopia is currently in Beta, with a full release planned for Spring 2021. Those who pre-order the game (for $49.99) on Steam will be granted access to the beta. The game is currently available on the Xbox Game Preview for $53.
