More than a platformer, more than an RTS, Smelter is a newly announced retro game that is equal parts both. And it’s coming to PC, PS4, and Switch next year.
Announced by publisher Dangen Entertainment, Smelter is a 16-bit style action platformer, as well as a real-time strategy game. It follows the story of the biblical Eve as she searches for Adam. Unlike the Bible, the story involved mysterious armors, unique weapons, and a variety of enemies to fight.
Smelter also features three elemental skill sets. Each set has a unique set of movements and abilities. The player has to use the skills intelligently to defeat the right enemies and solve various puzzles.
This is all we know about the game at this time. Mixing game genres like this is always an interesting idea. Sometimes it works well, but it runs the risk of falling flat if both aspects of the game aren’t up to snuff. Right now, the game looks like it puts more focus on the platforming than the RTS sections.
Smelter releases on PlayStation 4, PC, and Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020.
