Microsoft is Interested in Revisiting Age of Mythology

Age of Empires is one of the most famous RTS games of all time, no doubt. But do you remember the spin-off, Age of Mythology? Microsoft does, and they plan on coming back to the title in the future.

According to a report by Eurogamer, Age of Empires creative director Adam Isgreen revealed that Microsoft is interested in going back to Age of Mythology in the future. At the moment, this will be seen in a Patch for Age of Mythology Extended Edition, which released in 2014. Isgreen isn’t sure what they will do with it after that, but they won’t leave it there.

“we’re not going to leave it behind, we’ll figure out what to do with it then.”

Age of Mythology originally released in 2002. With the same combat and interface style as Age of Empires, it featured a more fantastical take with Norse, Egyptian, and Greek gods and monsters. The single-player campaign featured a long-running battle with a cyclops, Poseidon, and Atlantis.

Don’t expect anything soon, however. A patch is nice, a new game would be even better. But there is no guarantee on the latter. Even so, the studio is hard at work with Age of Empires 4. If we see anything, it most likely won’t be until after that.
